Media, Publications

The Folklore Department and his the Media and Publications WG Of the Estonian Language Institute, joined with the Estonian Literary Museum (ELM) in 2000. The WG continued the preparation and publication of academic periodicals, yearbooks and text-critical publications, which had begun in 1947, and made a research of new media. In 2007, on the initiative of the ELM DF Media Group, representatives of the ELM departments and the Estonian Centre for Cultural History and Folklore Studies (2000-2007), the first centre of excellence in the Estonian humanities, the ELM Scholarly Press was established.

The Media Group continues to participate in new media research where possible, but its main task is to broaden the scope of research outputs, pre-press work for academic publications, periodical series, monographs and text-critical publications. The publications are published in several languages: English, Russian, Udmurtian, Komi, German, etc., in addition to Estonian, and involve researchers from many countries as authors. The Media group is oriented towards the production of open-access, innovative publications.

The production of video and audio lectures (https://www.folklore.ee/rl/fo/loeng and on the YouTube channel FoMeedia (https://www.youtube.com/@fomeedia250) is one of permanent duties. WG prepares and records The International Society for Ethnology and Folklore (SIEF) The Ritual Year Seasonal Webinars (https://www.siefhome.org/wg/ry/seasonal_webinars.shtml, see also recordings in our server https://www.folklore.ee/ritualyear_wg), in international cooperation with SIEF's The RITUAL YEAR working group.
