In memoriam: Anu Vissel (Dec 16, 1952 – Sept 6, 2005)
Anu Vissel, senior researcher at the Department of Ethnomusicology of the Estonian Literary Museum, died in a tragic traffic accident on September 6, 2005. Anu Vissel’s contribution to the Estonian folklore studies are her rich fieldwork materials and studies into Estonian herding songs, traditional folk games and dances, contemporary folklore. In October 2004, Anu Vissel defended a PhD thesis Children’s Lore in the Changing Society. She has been rewarded many state prizes for an extensive research into ethnomusicology and for promoting folklore movement.
