Conference

On March 1, 2004 the Estonian Folklore Institute, the Mauritius Institute and the Astronomy Society of the Old Observatory of Tartu and the Department of Folkloristics of the Estonian Literary Museum have set out a joint public interdisciplinary conference "Estonian Sky: Different Aspects" in the main hall of the Estonian Literary Museum in Tartu (Vanemuise Street 42).
Astronomers, philosophers, a psychologist and scholars of comparative history of religion introduce the secrets of the stellar sky from different viewpoints.
The conference, which opens at 14:00, present scholars Jaak Jaaniste (The Sky Above/ Stars in March), Tarmo Kulmar (Our Ancient Sky God), Eve Kikas (Sky in Children's Minds), Jaan Einasto (The Future of Astronomical Observation), Enn Kasak (Everywhere and Nowhere), Mare Kõiva (Life in Mythological Space), Roomet Jakapi (William Whinston, the Great Flood and the Spectacular Catastrophe) and Andres Kuperjanov (Paramythological stellar maps). The panels are lead by Tõnu Tuvikene.
Andres Kuperjanov presents his book (Estonian Sky: Beliefs and Interpretations), which can be purchased at reduced price during the conference.
