Overview of Institutsions

Department of Estonian and Comparative Folklore, University of Tartu. A study and research centre, founded in 1919.

Estonian Folklore Archives, Estonian Literary Museum. The central folklore archives of Estonia founded in 1927, which aims to record and preserve Estonian cultural heritage, and make the collected materials available for use.

The Department of Folklore, Estonian Literary Museum. A research centre for studying Estonian and comparative folklore and publishing in the field. The department was founded in 1947.

The Centre of Cultural History and Folkloristics in Estonia. Academic Centre of Excellence established at the Estonian Literary Museum in 2001.

Academic Folklore Society. A society for folklore scholars, students and other people interested in folklore, founded in 1925, which promotes the collection, introduction, research and publication of folklore.

The Baltic Institute of Folklore (BIF). The folklore society of the three Baltic countries, Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania, founded in 1995.

NEFA-Tartu. An organisation of folklore and ethnology students, which joins students and post-graduate students and other people interested in folklore and ethnology.

Centre of Excellence in Estonian Studies. The Centre of Excellence in Estonian Studies (CEES) aims to study the Estonian society and culture.
