The department has organised weekly seminars on topical issues since 1999, which are open to all participants. Papers reviewed at the seminars are published online http://www.folklore.ee/seminar/.
The department has organised various international and interdisciplinary conferences and seminars, including the traditional outing seminar, held each year. The Department of Folkloristics was also one of the main organisers of the 14th ISFNR Congress (www.folklore.ee/isfnr) in Tartu in July 25–31, 2005.
